Username guide

Instagram username checker APIs: what do they actually check?

Choose an API by the answer you need: profile data, a public-profile signal, or a decision to register a username. The first two do not guarantee the third. This site does not offer a public developer API.

Define the result your integration needs

Keep format validation, profile existence, and final username acceptance separate. A service may find a public profile, find none, or fail to establish either. Store a timestamp and an explicit unknown state for timeouts, missing results, and rate limits; do not convert errors into “available.”

Compare documented service contracts

  • Meta Business Discovery: the documentation describes lookup of Business or Creator account data, with Facebook Login and relevant permissions. This is not a general registration-availability decision; access restrictions apply.
  • Seemu on Apify: its Actor page describes bulk checks and alternative suggestions. This site uses it for public-profile signals where live checking is enabled. Its description is a supplier claim, not an independent accuracy guarantee.
  • Another third-party Actor: this listing describes its own results and terms. Evaluate its actual response and billing separately; products on the same marketplace are not interchangeable.

RapidAPI is a marketplace, not one uniform bulk endpoint. Select a specific listing and verify its input, batch size, result fields, failure handling, rate limits, and billing before comparing it.

Budget for candidates, minimums, and failures

On 30 October 2026, Seemu’s pricing page displayed a starting rate of US$4 per 1,000 username checks. This is an upstream advertised starting rate, not this site’s price or an all-inclusive bill. Confirm current event charges, platform usage, minimums, tax, plan credits, failed-run billing, and any retry charges in your own account before estimating costs; conditions may change.

For a planning estimate, multiply expected billable checks by the actual per-check rate, then add platform and minimum charges. Budget unknown outcomes separately: a timeout does not prove that a paid run never started.

Handle uncertainty in your own product

  1. Keep API credentials on the server and restrict access; never ask visitors for their Instagram password or session cookies.
  2. Validate inputs, keep the original request reference, and limit request volume and spending.
  3. Record the source, result, and observation time; preserve unknown outcomes and check an existing job’s status before resubmitting.
  4. Give the user a way to confirm the final decision in Instagram. Review the provider’s terms and applicable platform terms for your use; commercial permission and long-term accuracy have not been established here.
